Aurico Webinar: Managing Changes to the Form I-9

Recently, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approved a revised Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). By Jan. 22, 2017, employers must only use the new Form I-9 (on new employees.) To ensure compliance with USCIS, Aurico has made the new Form I-9 available for all clients and partners in the Customer Forms Library within the WebACE™ Platform.The old version of the Form I-9, which expired on March 31, 2016, may still be used until January 21, 2017.

Aurico hosted a Webinar on November 17, 2016 titled Managing Changes to the New Form I-9 to provide education on the Form I-9 process.  Aurico provides electronic I-9 and E-Verify products. The electronic I-9 product through Aurico will accommodate the new form I-9 on or before January 21, 2017.

Annual Reminder: Fair Credit Reporting Act – Employer Responsibilities

As the New Year commences, Aurico wants to reinforce your duty as an end user of consumer reports, attached is a Notice to Users of Consumer Reports. There are certain obligations imposed upon you under the Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and we are providing you with a summary to help you continue to stay in compliance. In addition, we want to remind you it is essential that you provide the consumer (candidate, applicant, employee) with a copy of the FCRA Summary of Rights document during the process.
  1. Before an employer orders a consumer report from Aurico, your consumer reporting agency (CRA), you must make a "clear and conspicuous" written disclosure to the consumer that a consumer report may be obtained. This document is often referred to the "Disclosure" and may be a part of a Disclosure and Authorization form. It must consist "solely" of the disclosure.

Exit Interviews - A Key Component in Organizational Improvements

Recently Aurico hosted a webinar on Exit Interviews. Our presenter Chason Hecht, CEO of Retensa discussed the various benefits to properly conducted exit interviews.

Retensa’s Research Division developed a 40 item survey that includes questions on:
  • Key organizational characteristics
  • The methods currently used to conduct exit interviews
  • Exit interview effectiveness

Of the 353 respondents in EIRS;
  • 295 completed majority of survey questions
  • 75% of organizations currently conduct exit interviews for all units
  • 18% of organizations conduct exit interviews for some units
  • 7% do not conduct exit interviews at all

FMCSA Extends Comment Period on Drug and Alcohol Clearing House

Originally, comments were due Monday April 21, but the agency pushed that back to May 21 in response to a petition from the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association.  The rule will set up a system in which everyone associated with the federal drug and alcohol testing program will have to report test results, refusals to take test and return to duty results.

The purpose is to tighten the regulatory net by preventing commercial drivers from hiding drug or alcohol violations and ensuring that carriers are meeting their responsibility to test for substance abuse.

Employer Responsibilities Pursuant to Nevada Medical Marijuana Law

Nevada SB 374 clarifies that Nevada's existing medical marijuana law does not require an employer to allow medical use of marijuana in the workplace, and does not require that an employer modify job or working conditions that are based upon the employer's reasonable business purposes for those employees who engage in the use of medical marijuana. However, the law specifies that the employer is required to:
